TECO Public Art Gallery
presents
Artist Taylor Ikin & Dunedin Fine Arts Center Students
in our series “Hands Across the Bay”

February 1 - March 30, 2012

TECO Public Art Gallery presents Artist and Instructor Taylor Ikin and her students at The Dunedin Fine Arts Center in an exhibition from our series “Hands Across the Bay”.  Along with work by Ikin, the exhibition will include over 20 artworks created by her students in various media including watercolor on paper, acrylic on canvas, pen and ink and artwork created using layered images.  Her classes are structured like an open studio where students choose their individual subject matter and media while working independently.  Ikin then guides the class with demonstrations.  She prefers to teach by telling students, “You do it and I will tell you how to make it better.  You reach within yourself first.”  Frequent critiques are an integral part of the class as well.  Several of the class members have been painting with Ikin for over 20 years, while some are relatively new to the group.

Taylor Ikin is well known in the area-particularly since 2002 when she began work on a series of watercolor paintings depicting legally protected nature scenes in Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco Counties that are virtually inaccessible to the general public.  Hillsborough and Fragile Florida Collection [2002-2005] is made up of more than 43 paintings and has travelled to Tallahassee, Florida and Washington, DC.  She has work in numerous public and private collections and is represented in Tampa by Nuance Galleries.

Artist Taylor Ikin and members of her class will be present at a reception for this exhibition on Thursday, February 16, 2012 from 5:30-8:00 PM.  There will be light refreshments and the event is free and open to the public. Please join us.

The TECO Public Art Gallery is located at 702 North Franklin St., Tampa, FL 33602.  It is open Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.  For information about this or future exhibitions, please call Debra at (813) 767-1600 or email her at dradke1@tampabay.rr.com.
